How to get Sky in a block?
You think Sky is only for homes? Think again. While it can be a bit complicated to put Sky in an apartment, it can still be doable.
Good news for those living in apartments: Sky has announced that it will soon be offering utensilless service via Sky Q, but that is still ahead of us. Until then, it’s not impossible to get Sky on the block; it just requires a little more setup than in-home installation.
And even if your apartment can’t get it Sky, you still have many options to access Sky content without a Sky TV subscription.
Conquering Heaven in the Block
There are several factors that go into deciding if you can get Sky.
First, Sky needs to be offered in your area. You can use our Checks the zip code of the TV to see if Sky TV is available in your area.
If you can get Sky in your area, your next steps will depend on the size of your block.
Blocks of four or fewer apartments
If you live in a block of four or fewer apartments, getting Sky is very simple.
You can place an order online and go through a similar process for a regular order, but Sky may need more information from you, such as which floor you live on.
For apartments higher than the third floor, getting Sky is still possible, but a bit more difficult. You’ll need to call Sky and arrange the installation with them and their dedicated apartment installation team.
Blocks with more than four apartments
If you live in a larger block of flats, getting Sky is more difficult – but it can still be possible by arranging a Sky Communal TV system or installing a single antenna.
The Sky Communal television system works throughout the building and allows anyone in any apartment to get Sky TV. To find out if your block already has a communal system, call Sky or your building’s property manager and find out. A quick way to be sure is to check if you have a Sky TV outlet somewhere in your apartment. If so, installing Sky TV is easy and quick.
If not, you can arrange to get a shared TV system by contacting the Sky Building Management Agent to find out how to set it up.
Tip: If you don’t feel like getting Sky TV for your building, it can help you find out if other residents also want Sky TV to gain more weight upon your request.
While Sky argues that any costs related to ‘custom requirements’ would be borne by the property manager, in fact this fee is usually shared between residents as a service fee.
In some cases, you may not need a communal system if an individual antenna can be installed in your apartment. To receive an individual dish, your accommodation must meet the following criteria:
- The manager of the facility allows dishes from the outside
- You can receive a signal from the apartment
- The installation of the outer canopy is safe
The Sky Flats Tnstall team will determine if this is the right solution for you and your apartment. If so, you can sign up for Sky over the phone.
I can’t get Sky in my apartment
If you can’t get a Sky antenna for your apartment, you still have options to access great Sky content.
How to get Sky Sports
Even without any TV provider, you can still get Sky Sports through a NOW Sports membership, which is available daily or monthly. You can then stream live and on-demand content to a compatible streaming device.
TalkTalk and Virgin Media also offer add-ons to Sky Sports channels, and if you’re a BT subscriber, you can watch it all in the Big Sport BT package.
How to get Sky Cinema?
Again, Sky offers a cinema membership via its streaming service NOW, which you can sign up for even if you don’t have a TV provider. NOW Cinema Membership gives you access to all 11 Sky Cinema channels and content on demand and is available monthly.
TalkTalk, Virgin Media and BT also offer Sky Cinema for an additional monthly fee. In fact, TalkTalk and Virgin Media also offer Sky packages that combine both Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, so you really don’t miss any Sky content.
How to get Sky Atlantic?
When most people think of Sky TV, they probably think of Sky Atlantic, which airs all the biggest blockbusters from the States, including HBO series such as Game of Thrones and Westworld, as well as Showtime series such as Twin Peaks and The Affair.
Since Sky knows people really want to watch Sky Atlantic, they limit this channel to Sky packages and NOW TV membership only. So if you are unable to subscribe to Sky, the only way to watch these shows is by purchasing a NOW Entertainment membership. It will give you access to Sky Atlantic, as well as 18 other pay-TV channels.
While other providers – including TalkTalk – offer many of these shows for purchase from their TV stores, these episodes are typically only available after the show ends, so if you want to stay tuned or watch live shows, you’ll need to earn a NOW TV Membership.
