Italy Inflation increases in April; Falling unemployment rate
Consumer prices in Italy rose in April, according to preliminary estimates by the Istat statistical office on Friday.
Consumer prices rose 1.1% per year in April, after rising 0.8% in March. Economists had forecast an increase of 1.0%.
Regulated energy products rose 15.7% and prices for unregulated energy rose 6.6%. The cost of transportation-related services fell 0.7 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.4% in April. This corresponded to the expectations of economists.
Core inflation fell to 0.3% in April from 0.8% the previous month.
Inflation, based on the harmonized index of consumer prices, fell from 0.6% in March to 1.0% in April. Economists expected the rate to climb to 0.9%.
The HICP rose 0.9% in April. Prices are expected to rise 0.8 percent.
Separate data from the statistical office showed the unemployment rate fell to 10.1 percent in March from 10.2 percent in April. Economists expected a rate of 10.3%.
The employment rate edged up to 56.6% in March, from 56.5% the month before.
The youth unemployment rate, applied to the 15-24 age group, rose to 33.0% in March, from 31.9% the previous month.
